“Traditional cooking is the foundation of everything. From there you can do different things, but always with very clear foundations.”

— Albert Güell, chef at Can Lluís

A little history

Mató is a traditional Catalan fresh cheese: gently curdled milk, unaged and traditionally made without salt. It is eaten as a dessert, and «mel i mató» (honey and mató) is one of the classics of Catalan cooking. Ours is made from goat’s milk from Rasquera, in the Terres de l’Ebre.

Our mató comes from Artagro, a dairy goat farm on the road from Rasquera to El Perelló, in the Terres de l’Ebre. The herd grazes among centuries-old olive groves, with views of the Cardó and Tivissa ranges, and the farm makes its own artisan cheeses. Our Visit Artagro’s website → comes from the same producer.
