Born in Barcelona in 1939, Manuel V\u00e1zquez Montalb\u00e1n was one of the most lucid and challenging voices of contemporary Spanish culture. His work crosses genres\u2014novel, essay, poetry, journalism\u2014and always maintains a critical view of society, power, memory, and identity. <\/p>\n\n
